Biography
Arian is a visiting Ph.D. student at the Center for Law & Economics during the spring semester 2024. Since October 2021, Arian has been affiliated with the Max Planck Institute for Research on Collective Goods as a Junior Research Fellow and as a participant of the International Max Planck Research School on behaviorally smart institutions. Before starting his dissertation project at the MPI, he studied law at the Bucerius Law School and at Istanbul Bilgi University (LL.B. in law), majoring in fundamentals of law. In August 2021, he passed the first state examination in law in front of the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court.
Research Interests
Arian's research is motivated by the idea that reasoning and justifiability of legal decisions are crucial steps towards enhanced legal compliance, specifically in the state-citizen-relationship. Currently, he is particularly interested in the explainability of machine learning decisions in public administration. Methodologically, he works at the intersection of public law, Explainable AI (XAI) and organizational/social psychology.
