Young Scholar Recognition awarded to Margaritha Windisch (CLE/ETH Zurich) at ESELS Conference 2025
Margaritha Windisch, Ph.D. candidate at ETH’s Center for Law & Economics (CLE), reached 2nd place in the Young Scholar Recognition at the European Society for Empirical Legal Studies (ESELS) Conference 2025 in Toulouse.

Margaritha Windisch received the recognition for her doctoral research project external page Unveiling the Bond Between Artists and Their Work: A Vignette Study. This empirical study examines how the use of technologies in the creation process — particularly generative AI — impacts the emotional and intellectual connection artists feel to their work, drawing on the personality-rights theory of copyright law. Over 200 art students from 5 Swiss Art Universities took part in the study.
The 2025 ESELS Young Career Recognition was announced at the external page European Society for Empirical Legal Studies Conference at Université Toulouse Capitole in June 2025. The ESELS Conference offers legal scholars the opportunity to present their empirical research to a European audience of scholars.
Margaritha Windisch will present her study’s findings at a public event on September 24, 2025, at 7 PM at external page HEK Haus der Elektronischen Künste in Basel. Her presentation will be followed by a panel discussion with artists, moderated by external page Adrian Notz. The event details will be featured soon in the calendars of ETH Zurich resp. the CLE and D-GESS.
